Potty training twins (take 3)…challenge accepted!
“Each moment of the year has it’s own beauty.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
As we go into a new season in Arizona where the summer sun is replaced with the cool breeze, we enter into a new season in our home with the twins. We are working hard to transition out of diapers and onto the adult toilet.
I can honestly say that I have tried this a few times because I thought they were ready. The minute I caught them taking each other’s diapers off while they were filled with poop I freaked out. Does your child’s poop freak you out too? I think this can be attributed to a really awful experience I had with Kaila when she was a baby. She had a huge blow-out in the car and poop went everywhere. It was all over her body, including her mouth (so gross) and to this day I can’t think of this situation without feeling slightly sick to my stomach.
Just recently I have been hearing “mama change please and mama I go poo-poo.” This had me thinking they were ready to try again.
I was beginning to think that all hope was lost until we found the Summer Infant Train and Transition Potty. This has a 2-in-1 system that makes potty training much easier for you and your babe. The design is incredibly realistic because it looks just like an adult toilet. There is a place for wet wipes on the top too! There is also a removable foam potty topper that can be placed right on top of the adult toilet to provide a very helpful transition.
I am so proud of their progress in the last few weeks. Many people suggested starting with their big girl panties. But, honestly within the first few days I was super frustrated because we had gone through all the panties and I was constantly cleaning up pee everywhere. It was my literal nightmare. It wasn’t until I let them be free without the underwear that they realized they had to sit on the toilet to go to the bathroom. After this, we started making some real progress.
Did you potty train using underwear or did you just let them go without the underwear?
The girls are loving that they each have their own toilet that looks identical to mine. If you have twins, do not even try to potty train with just one toilet because it is literally impossible unless you train them at separate times. If your twins are anything like mine, then they will be jealous if only one is learning something new.
I have a few tips that I found incredibly helpful. Create an environment where they feel comfortable, keep books nearby, say a lot of prayers and ask God for patience haha (no seriously) and take it one day at a time.
“Life is so much better when you have a twin to share the ride.”
The season of potty training has been quite a ride for all of us. We are embracing every challenge and learning as we go. We are getting close to being able to move away from our personal toilets and transitioning our potty topper onto the adult toilet.
I think the twins favorite part is the noise the toilet makes when it flushes because it sounds just like the adult toilet. Arie loves to yell “good job” to herself after she goes and it is the cutest thing ever. It is not so cute when she tries to take her pee on her own to dump it, but that is another story. Layla is not as comfortable as Arie, but it is important to remember that twins are not the same person and will learn at a different speed. I am so proud of both of them for their progress.
The Summer Infant Train and Transition Potty is incredibly affordable and highly recommended by this twin mama. Your twins will love that their toilets match yours and they will be more willing to learn because of this detail. Check out this awesome product here and if you are potty training be patient and go at their speed. You’ve got this mama!
I remember the days of potty training…they were horrible LOL
We knew our little one was “ready” when she would come back with no diaper at all after she felt like it needed to be changed. We made a steady profession from her patting her little booty to flat out saying “boo boo” — and we already knew what was inside when she said that. The last straw was one day when she took her diaper off and poop literally flew across the room because of how she pulled I really off -__-. There was screaming and crying throughout the whole process because ahe was pretty stubborn. She was waking up with dry diapers for months before we started so we knew it was time. HER last straw was spilling water in her car seat on the way home (40 min drive) and that is when she decided she no longer liked the feeling of being wet. That was almost 3 years ago it’s been smooth sailing ever since! Good luck mama 🙂
